A Sleigh Ride with the Pals

This week we have a fun sketch by the talented Nicole Watt.  I thought it was perfect for using the new Sleigh Ride Edgelit Dies.   I hope you enjoy today’s creation!

The Stampin’ Schach Design Tips
This finished card measures 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ long when folded.

• Softly falling! The new Softly Falling Textured Impressions Embossing Folder is my favorite folder for holiday season.  I used it to add not only snow for the sleigh to run on, but I also used it to add snow to the sky.

• The more layers the merrier! I used Whisper White card stock for the sleigh layer, Gold Foil for  the village, Always Artichoke card stock for the trees, and Whisper White for the background.  Because I wanted the village to be on the right, I put the edgelit cutting side down on the white side of the gold foil and ran it through the Big Shot.  When flipped to the foil side, the village was on the right.

• Snow drifts!  I created a second set of white trees.  I cut the trees off and used the snow drift as the base for my green trees.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card.  I was so tempted to omit the sentiment, because I thought it made a very pretty scenic card without it.  However, I stayed true to the sketch and added it. To make me feel better about my decision, I did add two pearls.

Birch Trees by Liz Holloway

I am not a big fan of spiders but I am doing another card Challenge as I had so much fun the last time. The next card challenge is with SUO Challenge Blog again (SUO = Stampin' Up! Only) SUO Challenge #129, Cards Without Words.  Cards Without Words mean that when creating a greeting card you cannot have any words on it.

This was the challenging part. Most of my designs have words and was kind of lost. I wanted to play with new products I received and as well design something that will reflect my upcoming 3D project call Haunted  which will be released on October 5.

Sorry for the reflection of my lighting ... The basic black cardstock is cut at 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" and dry embossed with the Woodland Embossing Folder on basic black cs, and I painted the birch wood with white craft ink and let it sit overnight to dry, and then coming back to it highlighted the areas that I want more white.

The designer paper (Happy Haunting 139584) is cut at 4" x 5 1/4" with 1/2" trimming around it. You want to secure a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" window sheet and then cut a 1/4 Spider Web Doily and secure it to the upper left corner and add foam tape around it.

For the shaker, I used silver and gold sequins, then I decided that I want spiders to be included. Not just one spider but a bunch of spiders. The spiders where stamped on very vanilla cs, and then punch them out using 3/4" circle punch. Add your forest panel and then onto a basic black base card.

I later added a frame around the DP using the fine tip glue.

Hand Made Christmas Flower - by Maria

Sweet Hope Merry Christmas - Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #282

For the Sweet Sunday sketch challenge I challenged myself to make the flower from "Best Thoughts" into a Christmas flower, and the card a Christmas Card.

 

• The card is a 5 by 5" one with Real Red Cardstock as its base.  It is matted with Whisper White cardstock  the edges of which have been sponged with Real Red ink.
• The next layer is Merry Moments DSP again with Real Red sponged edges.
• A small strip of Real Red cardstock was adhered to the left of the DSP.  It extended over the DSP on the top but did not go beyond it on the bottom.
• The next layer of DSP is adhered at an angle.  It is the reverse of the first piece, and is mainly Old Olive green in colour.  The edges of this piece was sponged with Old Olive ink.

The Flower:

• It was stamped with Versa mark ink onto White cardstock, and embossed with gold embossing powder.
• It was coloured with ink pads and an Aqua painter - Real Red, shaded with Cherry Cobbler and then Smoky Gray.  The stamens were coloured with a Smoky Gray marker, and later Gold Dazzling Details was applied to them.  The leaves were painted first with Old Olive , and shaded with Always Artichoke and Smoky Gray.
• The flower was then cut out and adhered to a Dazzling Diamond glitter paper die cut with the larger of the Star framelits.
• A 1/4" red ribbon was tied into a bow and adhered to the center of the flower with a glue dot.  A Dazzling detail glimmer star was attached to the middle of this ribbon.
• Gold Dazzling details was used to outline the flower and highlight the stamens.

Sentiment:

• It is from the stamp set "Petite Pairs" and stamped in Real Red ink.
• The Modern punch was used to punch the sentiment out.
• It was adhered below the flower using dimensionals.

Bokeh Technique Tutorial, by Rachel Tessman

The Bokeh Technique (Step-by-Step Photos)

"Bokeh" (the way a camera lens renders out-of-focus points of light) is one of the hottest visual trends in design right now. I've seen it on TV and in magazine ads. And paper crafters have taken a hold of this and termed the process for creating this illusion with ink and paper the "bokeh technique."
Here is a card I made for my upcoming March Technique & Tea event. (Supplies used to make it are listed below.) Card measurements are:

• Basic Black - 11" x 4-1/4" (fold in half)
• Whisper White - 5-3/8" x 4-1/8"
• Pistachio Pudding - 4-3/4" x 3-1/2"

Then during my recent crafting retreat, I got the bright idea to apply this technique to Luke's baseball pages. I love the result!! But I have to warn you...this 12x12 spread took me about 3 hours to complete. Below are the step-by-step photos for how I went from plain Whisper White card stock to this.

1. I planned out where my photos would be placed so I would know where the accent images and title would fit.
 

2. Then I began by sponging on Hello Honey ink. I had four colors to apply, so I only covered about 1/4 of the area of both sheets with this yellow color.




3. I sponged on Pistachio Pudding ink next. I tried to use a circular pattern when sponging on the color so that the colors didn't look "scratchy."



4. Then I sponged on Wild Wasabi ink next.



5. Finally I filled in the remaining white spaces with Mossy Meadow ink.



6. I laid my photos back on the paper so I could stamp on the Mossy Meadow fern images.



(Some images I stamped without reinking the stamp so I could get a lighter green image. The lighter colored leaves create a 3-D image by appearing further back.)

 

7. I created a stencil of circles on a sheet of vellum. (Window sheets work better than vellum, but I didn't have any on hand during the retreat.)



8. I sponged on Whisper White Craft ink in a circular motion in the circles of the stencil.

 

 

And I did this over and over again eventually even overlapping the circles.
Warning...You'll want to be sure your Whisper White Craft pad is a "used one." It's gonna get dirty from the ink already on the paper and it needs to be a drier ink pad - one that doesn't have too much ink in it.



9. I used a dauber to add more white bokeh dots using a twisting motion as I applied the color.



10. I used the Heat Tool (optional) to dry the white ink. (Another option is to let your ink dry overnight.)


11. I then stamped on more Mossy Meadow fern images. This brings more branches more in the foreground.

 

 

12. Finally I matted my photos, added them to my page, stamped the title, and then added Pistachio Pudding sequins with glue dots.
 




 

 

The supplies I used (except the Heat Tool) are listed below and linked to my online store. Notice that there is a LOT of overlap. And again, I'd recommend making your stencil with a window sheet, but the vellum is better than just card stock because you can see through it. Have fun trying this technique out!
