For today’s Embellished Ornament card, I
chose to create a patriotic theme. Sending cards to our troops anytime
is important but especially at the holidays when they are away from
home. This is an easy layout to make any color combination for other
countries or even school colors, too.
First thing is to add some snail adhesive
to a 3-1/2″ white card stock square and adhere 1/4″ strips of red, white
and blue card stock. I chose the thick whisper white card stock so it
matched the thickness of the Real Red and Pacific Point card stock.
Position your ornament die where you like it and run thru your Big Shot.
I was delighted to discover the Stampin’
Up metallic sequins matched the Lucky Stars folder exactly! I used the
new Fine Tip glue pen and added just a drop of glue, carefully added the
sequin, then left it alone for 10 minutes to dry. I’m telling you,
those sequins are not going anywhere! That glue (once it dries) is
excellent for holding stuff on!
The greeting is actually from Happy Scenes
from the Holiday catalog, which was more of a thanksgiving sentiment
but I thought it was perfect here.
Thick Whisper White card base: 5-1/2″ x
11″, scored in landscape position at 4-1/4″ for a top fold card.
Pacific Point cs is 1-1/2″ x 5-1/4. Real Red cs is 3″ x 5-1/4″. Silver
Foil strip is 1/4″ x 5-1/4″ and scraps to banner punch and for the
ornament top.
Day 4
Here we are at day 4 of using the
Embellished Ornaments from Stampin’ Up! This one was super tricky to get
a good photograph of because it uses just Basic Black, Silver Foil and
white card stock. I love how it came out looking elegant and I think it
would be pretty in other colors, too!
This 5×5 card uses just the Delicate
Ornaments thinlits as a background. I cut 5 ornaments from the silver
foil and adhered them to a Basic Black card layer (4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″), and
trimmed the excess as I went so I could use it on the opposite side.
After gluing and trimming, I layered it onto a 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ white
layer then on a 5″x 5″ top fold card base.
I added an Iced Rhinestone (love those! they come in 2 sizes in a
pack) and cut the ‘peace’ from Basic Black card stock using the
Christmas Greetings thinlits on a white banner.
Tip: Use a clean, soft cloth to buff off any prints or glue n the foil after you are finished with the ornaments.
Day 5
Day 5 of my Embellished Ornaments set sampler!
You know those cards you think will be a
breeze and so easy until you make one? Yeah, this was one of those
cards! I was inspired by Shari Carroll’s card below, which was die cut:
I adopted her color palette of browns and
greens, which I loved. I used all Stampin’ Up colors and supplies of
course – Pear Pizzazz, Very Vanilla and Early Espresso with bits of gold
glimmer paper.
I think this card ended up taking me an
hour BUT i do love it! For the round ornament, I punched a 1-3/4″
vanilla circle punch to go behind it. The little vanilla ornament I
punched with a 1-1/4″ circle punch.
I used some gold cord and linen thread to hang the ornaments and also the wooden snowflake embellishments.
After it was all done I thought I’d never do it again but now that the arrangement is done, I can see making up more of them.
The greeting is stamped in Early Espresso
Ink and is from the Wonderland stamp set but anything long and skinny
can go up there on the strip of vanilla.
I’ll have to mail it in a padded mailer since the wooden ornaments and buttons are bulky.
Day 6
#6! Half way there with ideas for
using the Embellished Ornaments from the Stampin’ Up Catalog. This one
doesn’t use the stamps but rather just the framelit relief as a mask.
To create a mask, cut one of the ornament framelits in a large piece
of card stock vellum. I go the same size or larger thank the card for
the stencil. After cutting the ornament from the vellum, add a little
2-way glue around the edges, let it dry, which creates a temporary
adhesive for the mask stencil.
Apply the stencil and using a sponge dauber, rub on some Soft Sky ink around the edges. Keep the middle lighter in color.
Keep the mask stencil on and stamp a few
snowflakes and and branches randomly. I used Pool Party and Pear
Pizzazz with the Project Life Hello December photopolymer set.
Remove your mask and embellish!
I mounted it all on a Thick Whisper White
card. Pool Party layer 4″ x 5-1/4″ and the top, stamped layer is 3-3/4″
x 5″. I added some white seam binding ribbon for a bow.
Day 7
Day 7 of 12 days of the Embellished Ornaments sampler!
This one was a little tricky but I was determined to use that Cup of Cheer stamp set.
The card base is Blackberry Bliss, then a
layer of 4″ x 5-1/4″ white card stock then another layer of Blackberry
Bliss card stock. I embossed a 1/2″ strip of gold foil card stock with
the Boughs & Berries embossing folder.
First, swipe your Embossing Buddy across the card stock to get rid of any static or oils from fingers.
Carefully use a sponge dauber or marker to ink up just the words on the inside of the stamp.
If I missed any little parts or it was too tight for the dauber, I used my Blackberry Bliss marker to fill in.
Before stamping the blackberry, carefully ink the wreath with versamark.
Stamp on your paper but don’t add the gold
embossing powder yet! Wait a minute to be sure the Blackberry Bliss
ink has dried. Otherwise the gold powder will stick to it also.
After I stamped it, I can hardly see the versamark inked wreath but it’s there.
The Versamark area won’t dry while you are waiting.
Pour your gold embossing powder over image. Tap off excess. Remove any unwanted bits of powder with a little, dry paintbrush.
After you heat your powdered areas, cut with a #6 circle framelit and
embellish! I used some gold sequins and rhinestones. I touched a gold
sharpie over the rhinestones to make them look more gold tone. Add some
gold cord and a gold ornament topper.
I also embossed the middle banner
separately on another piece of white and cut it out. I glued it right
over the exact area so it is embossed gold for the banner.

Day 8
#8 of my 12 ideas using the
Stampin’ Up ornament bundle from the Holiday catalog. I went outside of
the card box today to show you a gift pouch that could hold a card, a
gift card or other flat gifts like candy bars, maybe?
This measures about 5″ wide by 6-1/2″ tall
when assembled. I made the ornament on a loop that just hangs on the
button and can come off to be used as a tag or hang on the tree. I
sandwiched the gold cord in between the 2 layers of the ornament.
The ornament is Cherry Cobbler and a layer of gold glimmer paper behind it. It is sparkly and glittery!

Ok, let’s get started! First, you can
make this using the gift bag punch board or other punch boards or
boxes. I kept it simple for anyone who doesn’t have fancy tools to make
the pouch.
Old Olive card stock is 8″ tall by 10″
wide. In landscape position, score from the left side at 1/2″ and again
at 5-1/4″. Turn to portrait position and score at 1-1/2″ from the left
edge.

To make it easier to fold, I trim off one of the bottom panels and angle cut the edges left.
Add your sticky strip or tear tape along the 1/2″ side flap. Before you close the pouch, you want to create a tab area:
I used the SU Wide oval punch, 1/2 way down.
Close the side flap, then the bottom flap.
The pouch flap is made from the largest of
the Ovals collection framelits. It has a scallop on just this one
oval. The DSP is about 5″ x 6″ to cut the oval. Fold in 1/2 and add
adhesive to just one 1/2 of the oval:
Adhere to back of pouch. Next I added a
Cherry Cobbler 1-1/4″ scallop circle, a 1″ gold glimmer circle and a
button. The loop from the ornament goes over the button:
Day 9
Moving right along! Here is idea #9 for
the Stampin’ Up ornaments bundle. I call this a Suspension card or it
could be called a Suspension Spinner b/c if you wind it up and let it
go, it spins:
I should really be doing full videos for
some of these, like this one which is a little more complicated.
However with doing 2 videos a week for Stamping School and life, you may
be waiting too long SO let’s do this old school with pictures!
First thing I did is mount 2″ x 4-1/4″
pieces of Rich Razzleberry and Island Indigo on a 4″ x 5-1/4″ white card
stock layer. I just love those 2 color together!
Cut a circle that is slightly bigger than
what you will be suspending. This is Circle framelit #7 from the
Stampin’ Up Circles collection.
If you are going to emboss, now is the time! I also added a 1/4″ strip of silver foil on the seam. I hate raw seams:)
I used Thick Whisper White card stock for
the card base. (4-1/4″ x 11″, folded in half). Lay your panel on top of
card where it will eventually be glued down. Use a pencil to mark your
circle opening.
Open your card and place the framelit (same size, #7, as the panel) over your pencil marks and cut the circle.
Stamp and cut 2 of the same ornaments and the caps.
I used the silver thread from the holiday
catalog. It’s super fine but strong. Adhere the thread between the 2
ornaments. Leave at least 10 inches of the thread hanging out from the
top and bottom.
On your white card base, add a little bit
of snail (tape) adhesive. Place your thread top and bottom and center
your ornament in the window. Pull the thread so it’s taut and add a
piece of tear tape or really strong double sided tape over the thread.
Give it a tug again before adhering top panel.
Day 10
#10 of my 12 ideas using the Stampin’ Up
ornament set/framelits. I do LOVE shaker cards and through the years,
I’ve learned a few tricks to make them successful every time. For this
card, I used the Brights Sequins and the bright pink Melon Mambo as the
layer of color. You can use any of the brights as a layer and it would
look great with those sequins.
How to build your shaker ‘hollow’.
(that’s what I call it anyway). Some use foam tape but I don’t like
the way things get stuck in it, especially stars, then they don’t
shake. So I like to re-purpose the heavy card board that comes in our
12 x 12 designer paper that most throw away. Michaal, a stamper on my
team, discovered that the lighter chipboard found in our kits works well
to layer. Emily, another stamper friend of mine, uses the thinner fun
foam from the craft store.
I cut 4 squares (3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ each).
In the center of each, I cut an ornament. No need for perfection, just
in the center-ish. Glue all 4 together, keep the ornament hole or
hollow perfectly aligned. You can get away with 3 squares if using just
glitter but sequins are thicker.
(ever try to take a photo of a clear, acetate window sheet? Squint – there are 2 there)
Tip #1: Cut TWO sheets of acetate, same
size as your card board. I use 2, not just one and it really takes the
frustration out of assembly.
Tip #2: Use rubbing alcohol on the window
sheets before putting glitter or sprinkles or sequins in. It helps to
de-static the window. Some use our Embossing Buddy but it can leave
white ‘scratches’ on the window. I’ve tried used dryer sheets but not
as successful as the alcohol.
Add adhesive to the back of the card board
frame and adhere the window sheet to the bottom. Some glue it directly
to the greeting layer but i like to sandwich it in and then I can move
it where I want it easier. Sprinkle in your sequins. Add your glue (I
just use the tape adhesive, Snail) to the card board and place the top
window sheet on top. Be sure you don’t have a finger print on the
inside!
Where does the greeting go?
Tip #3: Place the greeting behind the
window on the back side. Some stamp the greeting on the card and have
to align. I stamp on a 3×3 piece of card stock and position behind the
window perfectly and glue on.
I used a greeting from the stamp set
called Jolly Christmas, inked in Old Olive. I added a few rhinestones
and colored a few with red and pink Sharpies.
I cut the ornament where I wanted it on
the front panel. I can align my window up with my shaker window and
glue together. Add dimensionals on the card stock where there is not
the shaker so it’s all evenly balanced on the card.
